Fall Colors 2016

Autumn is, without doubt, my favorite season of the year. The air becomes crisp, leaves change colors, and if you're lucky enough to be in the high country, you might hear the bugle of an elk during the rut.

2016 began as an amazing year for fall colors in the area where I live. As I drove the back-roads during the muzzle-loader deer hunt, I couldn't believe the beauty and vibrancy of the quaking aspen. I made a pact that I would follow the changing colors from high elevation to low, and record the season in a documentary of photographs.

About a week later, two days of strong wind ripped through the area, tearing the beautiful leaves from their limbs, and causing those that remained to turn a dead-brown. I continued my quest to photograph the leaves, but the magic of that initial week had been lost.

I began at 10,000 feet in September, and end at ended at 3,000 feet in late November. Of course, life got in the way and I didn't stay too faithful to my pact. The following photos are the result of my effort. Maybe next year will be better. ♠
